What to do when you hate yourself?!

Question: What to do when you hate yourself?
I'm not going to go into stupid, soppy details. Long story short, I just hate everything about myself. I always have, and I feel like I always will. No matter how happy I may feel at one point in time, come the end of the day, I feel just as lost in self-deprecation as I always have. I can't be the only one. What do you do take your mind off it, or convince yourself that it won't always be like this?

Answers:

There has to be a reason you feel this way... Dig deep. Was it constant ridicule from parents? False friends? A few heart breaks? Feeling rejected all the time? Were you ever abused--whether verbally or physically? Have you ever suffered from depression? Do you perhaps put too much pressure on yourself and expect too much of yourself? Are you at an age where things are just confusing and you are forced to make big decisions that you're not 100% about so you get frustrated?

Whatever the case is, it is sometimes hard for a person to "snap out of it" and to just start being positive and loving themselves. I sometimes hate myself so much I punch myself in the face. I know it sounds stupid, I actually have a black eye from it right now... I'll get frustrated and pull my hair, and cut myself and burn myselt and bang my head and then some.

One thing that helped me was writing... During those periods of deep self loathing I start writing. Also, is there someone in your life that makes you happy? I have an ex that I care about dearly and he once wrote to me telling me how wonderful he thinks I am. I read that over and over and it makes me feel better.

You have to love the amazing person that is you. It's a tough life to live when you turn into your own worse enemy.

My Experience...

Honestly? Go to therapy. It really helps to gain perspective and learn ways to cope with your negative thoughts and feelings. Doing good things for others is one way to distract and feel better about yourself. Volunteer at your local animal shelter or old folks home.
