Could a psychiatrist perform a cardiac bypass?!

No psychiatrists are not heart surgeons.

Cardiologist specialists perform bypass surgery. For a psychiatrist to perform surgery, he/she would require specialized education. Both have general medical training, then doctors can choose to specialize in a particular field. It takes years of training to become a surgeon, especially a heart surgeon. It is feasible that a doctor could specialize in 2 different fields. I have an acquaintance that is a pediatrician and an internal medicine doctor. In general, I doubt there are doctors who choose to specialize in both of these highly specialized fields.

What a strange question.

Psychiatrists are doctors who specialise in the workings of the mind. They do have an overall idea about cardiology because all doctors train in cardiology, however they are NOT cardiologists and cannot assist in operations. The training is rather brief because they have the whole anatomy and medicine to study in just 7 years which is a massive subject.

The only time a psychiatrist can do this is if they are a fully qualified cardiologist and cardiothoracic surgeon which is probably unheard of because no doctor has time for both professions or the amount of studing they both require!

absolutely nothing to do with surgery. they couldn't do anything in surgery at all. their job is to talk to patients...and if he's asleep on an operating table...what the hell is the psych doin? lol...seriously.
