What's wrong with me, why do I eat so much?!

Question: What's wrong with me, why do I eat so much?
So I'm 20 and at University, I've been obese from an early age and all throughout my teens was very heavy (up to 290lbs and I'm 6'2). Now I'm 235lbs, quite fit I do boxing and have a fight in just under 2 weeks, but my eating habits are STILL awful, I eat on my own, sweet things, I go shopping and come back with loads of junk food and eat it all by myself in my room. I think there's a deeper emotional/psychological reason for why I'm eating, possibly to fill a void or emptiness. Last night I ate: A goodfellas pizza, 10 two-finger kit kat bars, 6 bags of mccoys crisps, 2 500ml tubs of haagen dazs ice cream, in about 5 hours. And I'm supposed to be training for a boxing bout?? I feel the need to eat this way, I feel bored and unsatisfied when I don't do this.

There are several theories that are floating out there; they have yet to be confirmed.

First off I would ask you this: in your childhood, was food was treated as a reward for good behavior? Was it an emotional outlet during times of stress? The early years of development are really when eating habits begin to develop.

Now on to the scientific explanations:

Since you mentioned your childhood obesity, you might be able to trace the cause through genetics. Is the rest of your family obese? There is something called a "fat-cell theory", which basically states that people's bodies are programmed to have a set number of fat cells. The number of fat cells in a person's body never decreases, but it can increase. This is why dieting is hard for people who have a certain "fat-cell point", because they starve the cells rather than get rid of them when they eat less.

Now I was a bit hesitant to share this theory with you, because it allows people to rationalize their obesity as a predetermined factor they can not control. I believe that it is hard for people to lose weight not because their bodies are built that way, but because they have established the mentality that eating is the cure-all to every problem in their lives. People who successfully lose weight are able to break this mentality.

Self-control is not impossible. Perhaps if you want to successfully lose weight, you should view the act of restricting your diet as a challenge, or as a way of stepping out of the destructive cycle you find yourself in.

I can assure you that there is nothing "wrong" with you, as many people go through similar experiences. I myself ate emotionally when I was under stress, but now I put in the extra effort to push down my hunger because I know that it is merely a thought, not a necessity. Before I always felt depressed when I looked at people who seemed to keep off their weight without trying, but now I view myself as a stronger person for staying vigilant and building control. I have successfully lost 20 pounds and have kept it off.

Ok so tell me this are you happy?
If not why?
Do you have low self-esteem.
These are issues you need to work on first because they will get in the way of you loosing weight and eating less.
Here is a website that I really think you should read if you are serious about getting to the root of things.

Become spiritual if you are not.
May be boxing training is the reason for all this hunger, try to eat healthy foo instead of junk food.
Eating a lot will not be a problem as long as you are doing your boxing thing, but still try not to eat junk food.

you need to get off your **** and do something that you enjoy, other than eating.. like learning guitar or something.. trust me it works... and go out and od some excercise
