Some anti-depressants are known to be potentially very sedating like Mirtazapine and Trazadone and are helpful for people who are depressed but also have sleep problems which is often linked. The tiredness can continue to the next day and make it hard to get up as normal and function well in the morning.
Lots of anti-depressants don't have tiredness as a potential side effect though, so you just need to point out to your doctor that this is something that would be a real problem for you and he or she shouldn't prescribe you one of these drugs.
Anti-depressants can cause different side effects depending on the drug but everyone reacts differently and some people are lucky enough not to experience any at all. Normally side effects go away once your body has adjusted to the drug, or at least ease. Side effects are annoying and can be unpleasant but they should never be severe. If they are then there is something wrong and you would tell your doctor and probably be taken off them.
I hope your appointment goes well and that you recover soon.
I've been on a few anti-depressants
you should disscuss this with your GP if you are given antidepressants then you will probably be started on a low dose to begin with to see what the effect is which wouldnt cause you to become overly sedated
tiredness can be a side effect of antidepressants but it can also be a symptom of depression if you let your GP know you are concerned about being overly sedated he will be able to re assure you
Ive never had an antidepressant before but they can take time to work at first initially they supposedly help you feel less anxious and release more seretonin in the brain to improve mood levels of seretonin can be low when depressed good luck x
