Is this depression?Or...?!

Question: Is this depression?Or...?
How would you approach a doctor to ask if you can be tested for depression ?Im a very shy soft spoken person and im not sure how to approach or ask this. There is a history of depression in my family.
I can barely sleep maybe 2 hours max and when i do i over sleep.I tend to eat when sadden or completely forget to eat at all that day.I find myself crying for no reason all the time,my skin craves warmth and I spend hours of my day in the shower under warm water.I spend days hours minutes of my life hiding crying or in bed sleeping or just laying there blank.Im wondering are these signs of depression or ....?Im not lazy its just I find no need no hope on doing other things.I just don't want to as if im locked in my body i try but I just don't see why I need to eat drink or get out of bed.I dint know whats wrong with me....This has been going on since i was ten years old and now its getting unbearable harder to push myself forward or even out of bed.Whats wrong with me?

It sounds like depression. You don't have to be scared to tell your doctor, they are there to help. Go to your doc and tell them how you feel, and they will refer you to a psychiatrist and maybe prescribe a course of anti depressants

i know how u feel, im going through the same thing myself now. The first step is to be brave and seek a therapist or Doctor that can help u..

That sounds a lot like depression to me: just make a normal appointment, and be totally open and honest with your doctor. They will understand, and guide the conversation: they'll ask you questions etc. If you feel too shy to say it aloud maybe you could write a list of all your symptoms and give it to the doctor, or even print out what you just wrote here and show him/her. You need to be totally honest though, if you want to receive effective treatment. Well done on taking the first step to getting better, 1 in 4 people have depression at some point in their life so you are definitely not alone, and the doctor will have certainly treated many patients for depression before. There are a lot of treatments out there for you, if you can take the brave step of seeing your doctor: a combination of CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) as well as medication could be very beneficial. Research does suggest that depression can run in families, but that does not mean your genes dictate your life and your happiness: so many people with depression recover and become their happy selves again, and you will be one of them :) Good luck! There IS a way out, and you're on the way to finding it!
