Oxycontin for Anxiety a possibility?!

Question: Oxycontin for Anxiety a possibility?
So, let me start of by saying I am not looking to abuse drugs, just simply looking for something that will help me the best. I have general anxiety and social anxiety. I have tried Zoloft, Valium, and Klonopin for the anxiety, and needless to say, none of them have really worked out very well. The Zoloft had really no effect at all on me, except for making me feel bad in the mornings. Valium helped with general anxiety, but no relief from social anxiety. The Klonopin, about the same as valium, but a little better with the social anxiety. The drawbacks of the two benzos are that they have made me somewhat hostile towards people. I lash out at them for no reason I have found out.

Anyway, I had surgery, and had Tylenol 3, Demerol, and Oxycontin prescribed to me, and honestly, the Oxycontin helped with the anxiety greatly as well as making me a happier person. I know the addiction risks and everything, but benzos have them too. Would it be wrong to ask my psychiatrist if this is a viable option or not?

Thanks =/

No, there is no chance that any respectable psychiatrist will prescribe oxycontin for anxiety. It would bring a world of danger and complication to your ongoing treatment and it is not approved for anxiety. The psychiatrist would be jeopardizing his/her license and your health.

You could ask, but don't be surprised if your psychiatrist says no. Oxycontin is a pain medication used to relieve moderate to severe pain, and it has a lot of potential for abuse. It's not a drug used to treat anxiety. Yes, it does make you feel good when you take it, but that's the reason people abuse it.

Buspar...non addictive, non narcotic top line anxiety relief..also, it's NOT an anti depressant which is what sold me on it. No angry outburst, no sleepiness, no idiopathic pain ever again idiopathic means without a known cause by the way

I know someone who took Oxycontin on their own for a month and it killed him.
