I'm afraid to die. Can anybody help me?!

Question: I'm afraid to die. Can anybody help me?
I went to a nursing home and I saw how lonely and old they were. That's when I thought, "how can they be so calm, knowing their days are numbered?" A while ago, I accepted God, but I'm just not sure about what will happen when I do close my eyes forever and I'm scared because I don't know what will happen. Will it hurt? How and where will I die? What's it like? Does it feel good? Where will I go? That's what scares me the most--what will happen? My friends aren't afraid. Why am I? And when I think about the closest people I love leaving one day, makes me tear up, too. Is this a physiological problem? A mental problem? How can I fix this and overcome it? Thank you very much!

Answers:

None of us is sure exactly what will happen when we close our eyes that final time but I do know that what we see as 'death' here on Earth is actually only the portal into the next phase of existence.
The Bible tells us that the believers will "sleep in Christ" until the day of resurrection so I have thought that when I do pass on, it will seem to me to be an instantaneous transition from here to there.
I wonder if we will be sent on to live on other planets or what but I am not afraid.
Remember, every living thing on this planet was born to die. We are dead already and the dead have no fears.

Everybody's afraid to die. But there's nothing you can do about it, and most people learn to deal with insoluble problems by not worrying about them, at least in the short term.

Most people find life pretty hard over time, and eventually it becomes possible to accept the idea of death as an eternal rest, just like our friends the morticians tell us it is. At least in abstract. In particular it's still a bit of a shock.

Anyway if you live long enough to get old you'll have had plenty of time to get used to the idea.

it's called anxiety sweetheart Buspar can help. The elderly are sitting there calmily because they know there's nothing to fear...I believe that as our time approaches we are 'informed' that all is well by our previously deceased loved ones and this results in the calm demeanor. I watched my mom ebb away from cancer and she said she saw her mom and her sister and everything was going to be okay.

YOUR LETTING YOUT IMAGINATION RUN RIOT KITTEN LOL WHEN YOU DIE AND WHICH YOU WILL WE ALL WILL ONE DAY YOU WILL BE CALM AND PAINLESS AND YOU WILL LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOUR LOVED ONES AGAIN IT IS RECORDED THAT THE MOMENT OF PASSING IS PLEASENT AND WONDERFUL SO IN THE MEAN TIME YOUR STUCK HERE WITH THE REST OF US FOR NEXT 50or60 YEARS ON SAD OLD EARTH SO NO MORE TALK ABOUT DEATH YOU HAVE A LOT OF LIVING TO DO FIRST SWEETHEART SO GET ON WITH IT AND SMILE.

It is like going from one room to another brighter room.

if god is with you what shall you fear

Heaven will have no pain or suffering there will be no pain at all after you die if you are saved

Most people in nursing homes don't even know who they are. Which is why they aren't scared to die. If you think about dieing 24/7, then it's a mental issue. If not it's just your brain jogging. The only reason we die is because Jesus died for us and we did not deserve him to die for us. We as people did not believe he was our savior and crucified him, which makes us evil. Life is only a test. If you've accepted God into your life you should not worry at all about dieing. You will meet with your loved ones and be a lot happier than on this awful earth. : ) ... I'm sure death doesn't feel good, but when you get to heaven I bet everything feel goods. There is no true way to specify myth from truth about religion. So.......just wait until you die to figure that out I guess...
LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST. DON'T WORRY ABOUT DEATH UNTIL IT COMES!!!!!!!!!!

My strange theories and thoughts. : )

One day not too long from now, we all get to be old if we are lucky. There is no way to predict what your death will be, nor when, nor for certain to know what happens after death. You can waste a lot of time by worrying about death, there nothing you can do about it, it is going to happen to everyone. That time could be better spent by living. If you have accepted God, then you shouldn't have any reason to fear it.

Realise that although your conscious mind knows that death lies in the far distant future, the part of your brain which is conscious is like an iceberg, with the vast bulk of the subconscious mind supporting it.

Unfortunately, to the subconscious mind, everything is in the present tense - "NOW", so whenever you think about your ultimate demise, it considers it as an immediate threat to your continued existence, and may well deal with it in its usual manner, by activating the very ancient "fight or flight" response. It also is unable to deal with negatives well, if at all, so it's far better to learn to use positives when dealing with it.

There are basically 2 approaches. One is to not think about death. But it's unhelpful to say to yourself: "don't think about death", because it doesn't understand the "don't" concept, so say: "let's think about something else, like what to do next", etc. You can employ the following:

It's important to regularly monitor, and deal with a negative internal monologue (self talk), or mental process, such as disturbing thoughts, images, impulses, or emotions, by the process of (a): recognising it, and (b): challenging it immediately. Technique For Re-Programming Negative Thoughts: When you notice something negative, such as: or: "What's going to become of me?" or: "When will it all end?" or even an image, emotion, or a memory; recognise that it is being generated from the negative part of your mind.

After identifying and labelling it, visualise a large, red, flashing, "STOP!" sign, and/or possibly a stern faced person wagging an index finger at you in a negative manner, then say to yourself as forcefully as you can, even aloud in a big voice, if alone: "I know this tactic: GO AWAY FOR A WHILE !!!" You may want to use either: "ruse", "ploy", "game", or "trick". In the case of an image, visualise a large "STOP" sign, or your preferred version.

Some people go so far as to keep a wide rubber band in their pocket, then put it around their wrist, when they catch themselves backsliding, stretch and release it, as a method of reprogramming their mind sooner, but I don't regard it as being strictly necessary. Remember to remove it, afterwards, if you use this method. Try replacing a negative thought with a positive affirmation of your choice, like: "I'm here now, so I may as well enjoy myself or do something interesting, enjoyable, or exciting when not making a contribution to the society which supports me"

Hypnosis is merely a heightened state of suggestibility, in which you are better able to communicate with your subconscious mind. 85% of people are suggestible, to some degree, so you could either preferably seek professional hypnotherapy. If it is not an option, hypnosisdownloads.com has ones about stopping negative thoughts, and fear of death.

Another way is to focus on death so long and often that your subconscious mind becomes desensitised to the subject, and no longer activates the fear response. There was a time, billions of years ago when there was no death, just (poorly) self replicating molecules, all derived from a common ancestor, according to the genetic evidence. It was more than 2 billion years later that sex, and death began. Then primitive nervous systems, later evolving into simple brains, with a sensorium, to detect dangers, and fear came into being. Overlaid on that basic fish brain is the amphibian brain, then the reptilian brain, then the animal brain, then the primate brain, and finally the massive cortex which enables full self consciousness in the human brain. ~~~

Then consider that the very molecules which make up your body, even the bones, are being replaced every several years, so extremely little of what was originally "you" remains. And the fact that all atoms of an element (which aren't isotopes) are identical, so it didn't matter which atoms were originally combined to form those first self replicating molecules, which all forms of life are descended from. Ultimately, there is no real death, as long as life continues on this planet, which it is likely to for at least 500,000,000 years, when the sun starts to become a red giant. We are all but different forms of the one basic creature; death is illusory, at least to some extent; that of the end of this vehicle for DNA. No, it is not a psycho problem. A lot of teens think about death and dying, and because you fear the unknown, it is scary. Nobody knows what will happen because no one ever came back to tell what happens.
Just live the very best life you can, and stop thinking about dying, and you will have nothing to worry about.
It is a part of living, and no one knows when they will leave, so it is a waste of time and good fun to think about it. You tell your mind what to do, and you are making yourself think about it.
Find something else to occupy your mind, and when it comes into your mind, just say:"I dont want to think about this".
