How long after stopping taking Citalopram do you have to 'start again'!

Question: How long after stopping taking Citalopram do you have to 'start again'?
Basically because of my doctor botching my appointments I (by the time I actually get to see her) will have been off the meds just over a week (as in I went from 20mg a day to none overnight).

When I start again will I have to wait another 2 weeks for them to kick in again, or will I still have some in my system so it will be working again in a few days?

Also I have got very down and lethargic, is that normal given I have only been 5 days without any doses?

Answers:

I don't think it will take 2 weeks to kick in again, you'll only have gone just over a week without them. If the GP wasn't concerned about you going without them for a bit, I'm sure it will be ok. I know they say not to suddenly stop taking anti-depressants but they know your situation and they know you will be back on them soon.

Feeling down and lethargic are normal withdrawal symptoms.

SSRIs like Citapram are causing addiction and it is not the best idea to do a cold turkey withdrawal.
You can start again anytime but only if it is making sense, for example if the med is helping.
If med is not helping you may option for a different med.
If you have no access to meds this moment you may read about alternatives, for example

which do not cause any addiction, weight gain, killing sex life and other nasty things.
