Am I depressed??????????!

Question: Am I depressed??????????
Ok I'm 19. A year ago I was in a car accident & I dislocated my spine. So this past year I've been through hell. lol. But I recovered & I'm in college now. I'm a loner though. I have no friends & no girlfriend. I still live with my dad & stepmom. I commute back & forth to college. I'm majoring in accounting. A normal day for me is real simple. I wake up & go to school. When I'm done with my classes, I go to my private gym to work out. I do weights, boxing, & running. I get home & I cook. I have to cook my own food because I'm allergic to gluten & dairy products. Then I take a shower. Then the rest of the day I do a little studying & reading. I'll watch a movie every now & then. I play on my laptop & listen to music. I might go for a drive around town. & that's pretty much everyday for me. I'm alone all the time. I think I'm happy. But others say I'm depressed & antisocial. People call me weird. People call me self-righteous. People call me a "misogynist" because I don't have a girlfriend. Sure I hate sex, but I don't hate women. I don't hate anyone. You could say that I have imaginary friends. But it's basically me talking to myself. So do I need counseling? My stepmom says I do.

Answers:

To be honest, no one on here could tell you if you are truely depressed. Even if one of the answerers is a therapist. You need to have a real discussion with a counselor before you can figure that out.

But I would say, yah go to counseling. Why not? I mean, whats the worst that could happen? You have someone else to talk to for a while besides yourself. Someone who will listen to everything and anything on your mind and help you sort out what you are feelings. The best that happens? It turns out you are depressed and your therapists helps you work through it. Then you feel happy, more alive and can enjoy everything you experience. I really don't see a lose here, especially since your parents are probably willing to foot the bill.

In my personal opinion, I would say that it seems to me you are a bit depressed. People who are actually clinically depressed don't feel sad and like crying all the time. They generally have a disinterest in most things. They don't have a huge interest in getting out of bed, they don't see much point in putting in the effort to make friends, everything just seems a bit pointless... but not necessarily "sad". So you may not even realize anything is really wrong, or what you are missing, but once you talk to someone and improve you will be so happy when you see the difference.

If you want to discuss this more, get some more advice or just have a sympathetic ear while you decide if you want to search for a long term therapist, feel free to email me at ade0123@yahoo.com

I have no actual qualifications that would help you, but I am good at being a sympathetic ear and like to give out advice, so I would be happy to help if I can.

Good luck. :)

i agree with your step mom. you need to see a psychiatrist for a mental health check with a possible diagnosis and treatment ASAP. your life style is not normal. what bothers me is that you have never had sex but you hate it. that sends out a signal to me that something is not quite right in your life. that and your imaginary friends.

maybe u shuld try dating a bit...ur not depressed;but it seems u can be missing something maybe a gf

You said you think your happy so no, i don't think you are depressed.
Don't listen to what other people say, you know how you feel, they don't. They only see the outside.
As long as your not hurting anyone just live your life how you want.
It's your life and if you stated living it like how everyone else wanted you would regret it.

You have plenty of time for a girlfriend in the Future so if that's not what you want at the moment then that's fine.
But you said you have no friends.I think everyone needs at least one friend and I think it would be nice for you to have someone.
Is there anyone you get along with?
Maybe invite them round one evening or try and make friends as we are all human and no-ones an ireland.
The rest of your life seems pretty healthy.
Your also doing really well considering what you have been through with regards to your spine injury.
Take care.

maybe, you do sound like your a bit on the safe side, which is understandible after the accident, but you need to remeber you only live once, spend your time wisely even if that mean wasting it on something stupidly fun. discover that being being bad feels so good. be adventurous. maybe you hate sex becuse you havent found the right person to do it with? sex and parties are a great way of releasing yourself, try to get involved abit, you dont have to spend your whole time living by yourself, you will never know whats out there unless your embrace it while you still can while your still young. counseling might help get you back on your feet, give you a kick start.

maybe give yourself a rest on the studying part... there is no point wasting your youth on school and then being condemed to a life of work after. (i dont mean give up, just give yourself recreational time)

College is the best time to not be social, at least first year. You can focus more on your studies. I was way too social my first year and I regret it! So, unless you aren't happy or feel blue a lot, dont worry about it. People have an idea of what you should be but only you know. Plus, you're 19 and in college!!! Talk about stress. Sounds like you already have a lot on your plate. Maybe get a handful of friends you can joke with but I wouldnt worry about it. I meet with my friends sometimes only once a month to catch up. So, whatever works for you. And some people are happy alone most of the time but its not like you aren't getting out into the real world (ex, not leaving your room ever). Talking to yourself isn't a big deal, it's only when you answer back. Like two separate entities talking. If that's the case, see a therapist before you see people that prescribe meds.
