could i be depressed?!

Question: Could i be depressed?
So I'm a 16 year old girl and I'm worried I might be suffering from mild depression.

Basically, usually I love being surrounded by my friends and my family. I'm usually always bubbly, constantly talking and implied in a gazillion different projects and groups, and love it.

Even though I used to enjoy spending some time alone in my room, now i'm spending alot of time alone. I'm also really low on energy (even my mom and some friends have noticed this ) even on the nights that i sleep ok. I cry really easily and don't have lots of patience with anyone. I've been using homewokr and other responsibilities to avoid going out sometimes. I've even been thinking of breaking up with my boyfriend of over a year.

Sometimes, I just think that it's just something that's bothering me, but I can't pin-point anything that might be bothering me. Could this be some sort of depression? Or am I just over-reacting? please help me.

Answers:

It certainly sounds like depression, but this could be caused by low iron levels making you lethargic, which in turn leads to depression.

I would advise taking a good quality multivitamin tablet and some long walks.

If after 3 weeks you don't feel better then go to your GP.

The problem with taking anti depressants is that they cause all sorts of other problems, so whilst they are good if required they are actually bad for you.

Exercise releases natural endorphins which is exactly the same as taking the tablets.

Good luck and get professional help if you think or your family think you need it.

You could very easily be depressed. Personally, I think the trickiest part of depression is figuring exactly where it's coming from. Try talking with your friends/family/boyfriend about how you've been feeling and if they're a good support system, they should be able to give you some comfort and answers as to why you might be feeling like this. If that's not an option, you could always talk to a school councelor or another trusted adult to see if they could help you out.
