I've been on it for over two years. I didn't gain any weight at all from being on it. I'm pretty sure it takes around 4-6 weeks to start feeling the effects, but it was worth it for me. This drug has honestly saved my life. However each person reacts differently to medications. I haven't heard anything bad (weight gain, horrible reactions etc.) personally about prozac though. Be patient, it may take several tries with different medications but if you stick with it and hang in there it will be worth it in the end!

Prozac can take up to several months to take effect. The effects of this drug are not immediate, so you should continue taking it as prescribed in order for it to work. When you do start to feel better, it is important that you continue to take the drug; a common mistake people make is that they stop taking their medication once they feel better. This may cause the depression to return, and you should never suddenly stop taking an antidepressant.

Some people gain weight on it, and some don't. If you exercise regularly this shouldn't be a problem. It has been found that exercising regularly can also ease the symptoms of depression.

It is also important that you not start taking the St. John's Wort again while you are on Prozac, because it may cause a dangerous drug interaction.

I hope this is helpful and good luck to you!

Prozac is one of the most widely prescribed antidepressants in the US. It comes from the group SSRIs and may take several weeks, 3 weeks or more to exert its full effects. Side effects are many and not all of them happen in everybody. Some side effects can be very dangerous, including suicidal thoughts, more common in younger people. Usually it is tolerated well. Many patients benefit a lot from it. Make sure that you work in close collaboration with your doctor and let him know if you develop any side effects. This is not a substitute for medical advice and you should discuss all the details with your doctor BEFORE starting therapy. Good luck.

Prozac takes 3 weeks to have any effect, but it does cause many people to become suicidal.

A good multivitamin and going for a long walk each day will actually help as much as anti-depressants but will have no side effects.

Best wishes

it didnt make me gain weight but i felt like it didnt do anything really but i guess it depends on the person

no
