Dissociative identity disorder - Creating a Murderer!?!

Question: Dissociative identity disorder - Creating a Murderer!?
It has always been a dream of mine to write a heart ranching, mind blowing, and thought provoking story that makes you say 'no way' after reading the last line of the last chapter and make you think about it for days.

My question is that how far can i take a story with a persona who has DID, alter-ego, i mean, could you tell me what is the least situation does one have to be in to develop this disorder e.g just even your partner cheats on you and you want to kill her/him cause DID etc. Could you give me some situations, that would be great. And any thing necessary for my story. How can one personality come in contact with the other? Hallucination? How?

Thanks a Lot

Ps. AN EXPERT's (a Doctor's) ANSWER WOULD BE FANTASTIC AT THIS POINT!

Answers:

Hm, well, I have it, and one of my alters is a sociopath who would injure anyone she meets if another alter didn't control her 24/7...what she represents is the inconsistency. Her actual job is preventing me from being suicidal, but because she's the inconsistency, she wants to kill everyone. It's kinda odd like that, but you could always do that. Just have the person's childhood be filled with lots of inconsistency, along with abuse of course. I've had so many promises made and broken to me that the words "I promise" mean "I'm lying" to me as soon as you say them. That's a lot of broken promises...

And personalities can talk to one another, they may or may not be able to actually SEE each other, but a lot of the time they can communicate. Some DID people's alters, like mine, can actually see the projections of the other personalities if the alters feel like doing it. Mine do it if the lead alter wants to talk to all of them at once but doesn't want to type it out or do it all internally. No one is allowed to speak out loud, they must communicate telepathically, but from what they've told me of these meetings, it's a more efficient way to get a lot of information and opinions out all at once in a quick amount of time.

I suggest looking at some personal stories of people living with DID...you can usually get a good idea of how different it is from person to person. There's things online and books, like Sybil, Switching Time, A fractured mind, the flock, etc. If you have a nook thing you can just get them on there.

Myself.

In dissociative identity disorder, the two personalities do NOT come in actual contact. They are not even aware of each other's existence. From my understanding of the disease, I would stop short of saying that they actually AVOID each other, since its an escape from an undesired traumatic situation. Its needless to say however that they do affect each other's lives. I would suggest that you research about it more so that your portrayal of this DSM IV condition is more authentic.
