How do I help someone with depression?!

Question: How do I help someone with depression?
My boyfriend & I only started dating recently but we known each for about a year now and he has been depressed for a very long time so I told him seeking medical advise will ease his pain but he doesn't want to seek help and he says he can take care of it alone. The reason behind his depression was he was bullied in high school and since then he has been living a lie. It makes me sad seeing him at this state but I know in my heart I don't know what to say to help him is there any possible way that I can help just a little can anyone give me advise on depression? Please help

A lot of information on helping with someone with depression is available here (http://au.reachout.com/find/articles/liv… There is also information on depression and how to manage it (http://au.reachout.com/find/articles/dep… Keep suggesting that your boyfriend try counseling, because that is how he will get the most help. Counselors have the proper training and tools to help your boyfriend overcome his depression and work through the problems from his past. You are the best resource he has right now, so keep him thinking about getting help. You could have him start out by calling the Kids Helpline (1800 55 1800) or Lifeline (13 14 11), they are both free and anonymous and they can offer a list of counselors in your area. It always helps to talk to someone outside of the situation. Seeking help is a big step for a lot of people, but if you keep mentioning it, your boyfriend should be able to make the step. Make sure you keep yourself mentally healthy as well; the help lines are also available to you.

Try to be friendly with the depressed person
Offer hope in whatever form they will accept it. This could be their faith in God, their love of their children, or anything else that makes them want to go on living. Find what works best for them and remind them of it whenever they're not sure they can hang on any longer. If they're suicidal, you may need to seek immediate help. There are some very valuable suicide resources on the Internet that will help you to help your loved cope with suicidal feelings as well.

You can call the Suicide hot line they can help you know what to do and everything 1-800-SUICIDE

Other then that I don't know I hope that helped

Spend lots of time with him together. Take him places where you usually have fun times together.

You really can't help him unless you are a mental health professional. Keep urging him to go seek mental help.

living a lie? He needs to see someone, brains get sick too
