Question: What exactly does CBT consist of, and how could it help someone who has wanted to die for 25 years since they?
were psychologically abused (through crazy making) by mentally ill parents, as a child?

This person is a life long loner because of it, and suffers hyperhydosis, and also difficulty walking, breathing, and talking due to a curved spine (kyphosis). They cannot work, and have had to move back in with the same parents to avoid homelessness.

I wouldn't use CBT for healing old trauma and bad messages, Iwould use eft . You happen to have a couple really good people in the UK who know this method well . It takes a fraction of the time and can resolve abuse quickly no matter how old. You can also learn the method and write a list of things that still pain you and apply it yourself. It might even help with the spine and physical problems.
It doesn't matter even if you don't believe it , it works.

Otherwise, just look for people who do CBT if that is what you really want. I would not think it would be as effective and would take a long time.

it focuses on one aspect of depression ie the behavioural aspect. it does not take into account so many other factors - your environment, family, intellect, finances, and so on. i have lifelong issues like you. i'm 39 and have had depression and anxiety for 25 years. ive done 10 sessions of cbt and am no different.

It maybe better for you to simply meditate with mindfulness and inner body awareness that can heal you from the inside out - or you could do both.

I think being a loner is a big part of the suicidal ideation. for those of us who want to isolate (these are terms you can google for more info - suicidal ideation and isolating) we have to force ourselves to get out there with other people. the way I have done this for much of my life is thru hobby clubs such as needlework or aquariums, but there are lots of kinds of clubs. also, disability support groups can be a good way to make friends. you don't want to spend all your time talking about how your disability sucks. you will do that some, and then, maybe it is time to play monopoly or something and just have a good time. depends on how the support group is organized.

you can get a preview of CBT through australia national university's moodgym program - google it for the link. it's kind of fun, and there are mini tests to figure out what your warpy thinking is. it's non-judgmental and it is kinda dorky, but still fun.

I have a little trouble with some of the more mushy emotional terms in CBT and so I have done more on the behavioral side - getting more social support, more exercise, using a light box, distracting myself when I am blue, etc. These are the things that will help you more right away, while you work on the longer term issues, like your communication skills (are you able to assert yourself when people trample your boundaries? Do you know what boundaries are? It took me a LONG time to figure out what that word even meant!). I was abused too, but it was child sexual abuse. You will always be affected by what happened but getting counseling for the abuse can decrease its negative effects very noticeably.

good luck.
