Emotional support..please?!

Question: Emotional support..please?
I have co-op at a vet clinic...which has generally been a good experience for the most part; until today. You always here that animals being put down is for the best if they are ill, but I witnessed one today and I beg to differ. So my point is the following questions; answer what you can
Why do we feel its ok to put animals down when they are ill when that rarely happens with humans?
Why do we have the right to choose if they live or die; shouldn't nature take its course?
How do I get the image of the dogs last moments out of my head?
Any ideas on how to make this illegal?

Well to be honest if I had a really ill dog I would put it down too. Think about the animal, would you rather make them suffer with a injury or illness for another few years or send them to Heaven? This will never be illegal because in some cases it's the right thing to do.

As someone who has had to put down pets before, it really is difficult. I trust my vet's opinion(I hold a high respect for their hospital) if the animal is in too much pain.

For the cat I had to put down, it couldn't eat well without being in pain. That's not fair to the cat, or any animal that is in too much suffering.

As for the last moments part, since you really don't know the animal I don't have much advice. I knew that for my cat, if I did think about the last moments, I also thought about all the happy times I had with it.

I understand your dilemma, it can be difficult to justify putting an animal down. Ultimately, it is the owners choice, usually for personal reasons or what not.

I hope this helps; that must take a lot of courage to endure that on a daily basis
