How strictly is the Baker reform act followed in Florida?!

Question: How strictly is the Baker reform act followed in Florida?
That is the law that allows court mandated medications or treatment for medication non-compliance by the mentally ill.
I have read the law and there seems to be only forced medication in violent or suicidal situations. If non-compliance was documented as a result of paranoia - would the Baker reform act be enforced?

Answers:

Beth. This is of dire importance to the well-being of everyone under statutes of mental healthcare law. I do not know enough about it; only my experiences with people. I have known two people to have had their disability checks suspended because of refusal to continue taking the meds that they were prescribed., and I know others who were warned and- complied. They might actually just be unable to show enough skill with personal interactions to stand up and fight it.

Hi sis, I can tell ya what I know, since I lived in FL for a time, and know that the law is pretty loosely defined or upheld. I also know that one can baker act themselves into an acceptin institution that accepts them, but not all will. Plus there is no lock up and those involved can walk out any time, even if they aren't so acceptin of tryin to get well. My cousin went in for behaviors related to alcoholism and didn't get much out of it. i think it need to be enforced to a degree, but if one voluntarily involves in it, I doubt it's mandated with forced holdin.

You live there, i did live theer, FL is like 47 out of 50 states that even seems to give a rats butt about people.

Good answer by # 1, but the keywords mentioned is "Supposed to" yeah try tyin that up in court.

if you get no answers, call your local NAMI

if you are trying to protect your rights or those of another, a psychiatric advance directive or PAD can be filled out. bazelon.org has links. you specify what care you would like when you are having a mental health breakdown, and courts are supposed to abide by it.
