Sleep paralysis is what keeps us from sleepwalking. It's not unusual to have vivid dreams which include the feeling of being paralyzed. No, it does not cause death.

From personal experience, I do not believe that you can die from sleep paralysis. I understand that it really is extremely scary. It is, as the others mentioned, your body's way of keeping you from getting up and acting out your dream (think opposite of sleep walking).

Something that I did the last time I suffered from it was just to let go. I find that the more panicked I get, the longer it lasts and the scarier it is. You may have already read about that technique, but it really does work. I just reminded myself that there was nothing in the room with me, that I would wake up when it was over, and I let myself fall back asleep until I woke up.

I think the scariest part of it for me was not knowing what it was for so long, or that other people suffered from it. At least you know you aren't alone!

Previously suffered from sleep paralysis and sleep walking, continuous nightmares.

if you are hard pressed, sleep paralysis and hallucination will be in the offing, and so do the occasion when you drink a lot to drown your sorrows.but they are not physically deleterious, your anguish is much ado about nothing.when it come to pass, you are like being confined,as if being at death's door, that make you want to yell blue murder, but nothing is more helpful than a simple godsend touch on your skin or sound so that can rejuvenate.
this usually occurs during REM sleep, though scientists are still in the fog about its function, they believe it has something to do with narcolepsy(sudden asleep) and people can get around it by the basic principals:
1.getting enough sleep
2.reduce stress
3.exercise regularly (but not too close to bedtime)
4.keep a regular sleep schedule

This is normal, and keeps you from falling out of bed, or for that matter running over the edge of a cliff. No, you can't die from it. The only abberation of it is known as night terrrors, a little understood phenomenon where this paralysis does not seem to be effective during an episode.

i too suffer from sleep paralysis and i really dont think u can die from it. i guess the only way is if you have a weak heart and old and have a heart attack since it is a terrifying experience. a good way to wake up fully is ro try and focus on wiggling your toes (big toe). it actually helps most of the time for me.what do you hillucinate btw? i see a shadowy figure in my room. i feel asthough he whats to kill me and laughing at me. and sometimes i see myself hovering in room. its crazy scary.
