how dangerous is it to skip anti depressant?!

Question: How dangerous is it to skip anti depressant?
My 19 year old son has always been anxious and gets stressed easily. He was recently diagnosed with colitis. I want him to go on an anti-depressant/anti-anxiety but he doesn't want to because he is afraid of what will happen when (not if) he forgets to take them. He is very forgetful.

Is stress the cause of his colitis, causing him to be depressed? Adding anti-depressants may irritate his digestive system more and if he's forgetful in taking his meds, the side effects might hit him too hard. Have you tried natural alternative medicine? There's this company called AloeElite that makes aloe pills that help with digestive disorders and may be able to relieve much of his pain...I provided their homepage so you can learn more about it. Hope it helps and good luck!

Antidepressants have a half-life. Let's say he takes Celexa (just as an example, that's what I take) The half life (or the longest the effects of the medication will last) for Celexa is 1 day and a half meaning that the withdrawal symptoms won't start until a 1 day and a half after I take it. It depends on what the half-life on his medication is. Is it sooo serious? no, but if it gets to the point where the half-life runs out, I'll get my anxiety and everything back. It's okay if he only misses a dose. Just make sure he's not missing them like 3 days in a row lol.

I think he'll live.

I base this on the simple principle that there's plenty of undiagnosed depression & they live without their happy pills.
