It would have been useful if you had mentioned the name of the drug you were given, but I am assuming it will be something like lorazepam or clonazepam.

These drugs indeed do have a bit of a bad reputation, and there are some things to bear in mind when taking them.

Those 2 drugs I mentioned are benzodiazepines, and when used long term, they are addictive. Taken on an as needed basis however, rather than on a daily regular basis, is quite safe. If you have to take them every day, it is not recommended you do so for more than a week.

These drugs are great for short term assistance in managing anxiety, but in the long run it is safer and healthier to learn some techniques in dealing with anxiety. There is loads of stuff on the internet about how to do that, and there are also trained professionals such as counselors and therapists available to help with that.

If the doctor gave you some meds, then I would take them...you won't know how the medicine makes you feel until you actually take it.

The doctor that prescribed the meds will probably ask how the meds are working at your next visit, and if you have any side effects (they also should have told you to call them about any side effect that really bothers you or doesn't go away), from the medications. That way they will know if that medication and dosage is working for you or not.

"I had suffered generalized anxiety for more than two years and I can tell you that Charles' Linden Method helped me when I thought nothing could help me. I took medications like Valium, Zoloft, Lexotan, Xanax which had no effect over my anxiety, except making me feel very dizzy every day. Now it has been one year since I gave up the medication and I feel OK again."

Hake, yes, you should take your medication. But if you have any side effects, or anything you didn't expect, tell your doctor. Peace to you.

Since the doctor prescribed you medicine, it would probably be a good idea to take them.

yes
