how to be rid of negative thinking?!

Question: How to be rid of negative thinking?
i am a chronic negative thinker .. to me everything [ even good things ] is a step to the vast unknown terror called tomorrow .. i am 40 .. this started when i became an adoloscent .. my father lost his business and became ill .. i took care of him but in the process lost my soul ..
in the middle some times i have shown flashes of inspiration and dropped smoking from 20 a day to 2 now [ 10 years long success ] , gave up a 5 year long alcohol habit at 28 .. dropped weight successfully once at 28 [ 40 pounds ] .. but i am unable to hold on to any gains i make since i brood a lot and i am scared .. i look and act tough but i am scared .. i am still inspite of my apparent strength and stamina a small boy of 14 inside trembling at when his father's business will close down and family will be left on the street ..
i am in India .. the psychiatrists here are not good counsellors .. they prescribed zoloft ten years back .. and it has worked well .. but it is hardly a substitute for optimism ..
i have made a mess of my life due to this since hard as it may seem to believe .. if you think that all you are doing will lead you on to more tragedy it is tough to accomplish anything no matter how hard you work ..
i want optimism ..
how can one get it .. will turning to God help me [ am an on again off again believer ]

honestly, i dont think how worshiping statues will help u, but if u want to try, go ahead for ur self-satisfaction. look, what a lot of people misunderstand these days is that life = fun. that life is life if it is always being happy. but, thats not true. life is hard. this contaminated place called earth, we humans are here to work hard in it. this world is simply not designed to satisfy us humans; no matter how much blessed u r. now when something bad happens in life, there are two ways to deal with something like it. 1) to sulk over it, to think why me? or second to think that yeah, it happened to me, but i am gonna learn from it and be a better and stronger person. u nicely handled the burden given to u. but u are forgetting to learn from ur mishap. i mean, this is real life and it aint fair. that problem here is that u just got exposed to real life at an early age. and when u say that whats the point of being happy today, if eventually things are gonna be bad again. but this is life, its not just happening with u,but with everybody. one day is better than another day or worse. this is the phases of life. sometimes u are on top of the wheel sometimes on the bottom. when u are going through a bad time, then bear through it and be strong. and if u are happy, then rather than thinking that whats the point, sometimes bad is gonna happen tom, think that i am happy right now, i will enjoy this moment, learn from it, and take its strength of happiness, of strongness, and live through a bad time if it is to come. frankly speaking, u r 40. in that age, having a nice life partner to share to ur good and bad time is not bad coz marriage is a beautiful relationship if handled nicely through honesty and compromise. if u r already married, then share this with ur wife, connect with her and hopefully she's become ur guide in this "dark tunnel" good luck.

make it a habit to attend religious meetings that includes sharing. Sounds corny but really helps. Just be strong buddy!.

Google The Red String Book (it is very short book, and the entire book can be read online) it has helped me rid me of my egoic thoughts, I couldn't get any 'red string', so i resorted to something more to my liking - its all about NON-judgement/s - don't judge the string.
It really works, can you get to the ocean - its a great source of 'taking-all-your-shite,' leave all your frustrations, anger etc... in the meantime you will have such a great time in the ocean, let her toss you around like you are in a washing machine - you'll be so refreshed you won't want to whinge etc....
GET OFF THE CHEMICALS: Why are you taking poison? and why did you let this so-called doctor (he has doctored your $$$ and that's about it)tell you that chemicals are good to ingest. Weren't you taught at school to stay away from chemicals and not to take them internally - so why are you taking this stuff? It is doing you more damage than you realise.
You are far better off doing:-
1 .Do not read newspapers/magazines etc...
2. Take the news on the radio, tv etc. with a grain of salt (90% is fabricated - lies) - it's all too depressing
3. Sit in the full sun and get a good dose of Vitamin D (not from a bottle) its free from the sun
4. God can only listen but you are the one who has to take the steps
5. Watch comedy programs, movies, cartoons, etc
6. Stop thinking everyone is out to get you, they have bigger and better things to worry about
7. Stop judging everyone and their actions, you only need worry about yours
8. Laugh out loud at the ridiculous and stupid actions of others rather than diss them, you'll feel better for it
9. Do not enter into arguments, this is an easy one to fall for. You may only answer someone IF it is a direct question to yourself - otherwise shut the mouth - as this is how most often conflict is caused. We often make the mistake of answering to statements, which I have found is the cause of so many arguments - personal opinion. Again unless it is a question - do not speak - it's not required.
I didn't mean to go on - but good question
Cheer up babe, read The Red String Book - I think you need it's advice. All the very best to you and have a wonderful, wonderful day.
Remember that people do care, I care as my advice if free.
The psychiatrist cares - only about raping you of your $$$ - stay away from these people, get smarter heal yourself naturally and
Your welcome ... Love you
