I have been on kexapro for 7 years now and it has not effected my sleep at all.

since gardens all day pretty much answered everything there was to be answered, esp bout that idiot callin saphris an antidepressant.

i will put in my 2 cents. antipsychotics are indeed a horrible class of drugs. just thank god you arent on those ones. but lexapro isnt all that bad a drug to be on, and its actually the easiest out of all of them to come off of. and it generally has the least SE's..

well besides that there are also a bunch of mood stabilizers out there(they are generally anti-seizure) drugs that are used for mood stabilization and some used for sleep, axniety and pain. gabapentin, pregabalin, lamictal, trilleptal, and valproate just to name a few, are some that are used and can be helpful for sleep, without causing too much havoc to your health like the antipsychotics, or your sexual drive like the ssris.

who knows there may be a whole new novel class of psychiatric drugs out there that comes out, that is nothing like anything they have out there right now, that work differently and solve different problems.

that is so concerning that one of your answerers was given saphris to help her sleep and it was called an antidepressant. It may be marketed as an antidepressant, but it is actually in the neuroleptic class of medications which are usually known as antipsychotics. these are among the most toxic drugs, and the physical side effects are so bad that they can shave years off your life due to COMMON side effects like massive weight gain, diabetes, raising cholesterol and triglycerides, doubling your risk of heat stroke, causing heartbeat abnormalities, and many more things. seroquel and abilify are the other brand name antipsychotics being given out like candy.

lexapro and other antidepressants are acting as placebo. google antidepressant placebo kirsch for an intro to this topic. other researchers have now confirmed kirsch's findings. also, lexapro is likely to be the end of your sex life as you know it, did your doctor tell you that? any antidepressant that affects serotonin, which will be your ssri's and ssni's will make you unable to have sex normally. This often causes relationship problems. also, if you take this drug long term, and want to stop it, you must taper off it very slowly or you have a good chance of getting horrible withdrawal, but your doc will say it is the depression coming back.

I would suggest googling sleep hygeine and following that advice rather than taking any pills. benzos and ambien and lunesta only work for a couple of weeks, sleep studies show this and sleep experts don't recommend pills like these. also, avoid bright light and especially blue light before bed - it wakes you up.

If the sleep hygeine advice doesn't work, then I would suggest that you see a sleep specialist. also, cognitive behavioral therapy can help if the self-help tips don't and the sleep specialist finds nothing wrong.

Insomnia is a side effect of Lexapro, as it is for most antidepressants. I've been on Lexapro for a while now and I haven't had too much trouble sleeping on it, however, everyone is different and there are people who do have problems with it, so then it might not be the drug for you. Try it out, and see if it works.

I've been on it before, and it never helped me sleep any better at all.
