im 24 and have anxiety & sleeping issues. Doctors i have been to seem to not!

Question: Im 24 and have anxiety & sleeping issues. Doctors i have been to seem to not want to help me.?
Ive been to psychologist, psychiatrist, i've tried paxil and celexa and NONE OF IT WORKS! I went to my doctor today and he paid no attention to me having anxiety and he wanted to put me on ambien for my sleeping issue and i told him "no because ive seen people on it and i've heard bad stories" and so he disregarded that to and put me on gabapentin but im already over taking it. This also doesnt help me sleep and actually gave me chest pain. So what kinds of anxiety meds and sleep meds can i look up and bring to my doctor as options for me.

You have two issues here, and they likely are related, but not always. I don't know enough about your history.

Ambien or Lunesta will help with your sleep, and I would recommend at least trying it if your insomnia is interfering with your work or social functioning. But you are absolutely right, it is a temporary fix, and assuming the anxiety and insomnia are hand in hand, you need another solution in the long run.

Almost all the popular antidepressants are approved for anxiety as well as depression, but often the dose needs to be significantly higher to treat anxiety. Some doctors don't know this.

Lexapro, Effexor XR, Cymbalta, and Pristique are the newest drugs and may be more effective for some people. I actually like Zoloft for anxiety as well.

It is hard to be patient, but usually you can find one medication out of all those out there that works.

Benzodiazepenes like Ativan, Xanax, or Valium can be use3d short term for anxiety, but as they are controlled substances that are often addictive, they should only be taken until the others medication kicks in. And because the potential for abuse is so high, some doctors might think you are drug-seeking if you suggest it, so if you do, proceed carefully.

Non habit forming choices are Buspar and Hydroxyzine (for anxiety) and Remeron and Trazodone (for insomnia), but in my experience they work best in conjunction with other meds and aren't all that successful on their own.

Hope it helps!

Hi,

You must consult a therapist, go for best therapists online. Don't take medications which are not prescribed they may have negative effects. Go with online counseling and try to talk to various therapists online. Try out the site in source or else you can go with various other sites online.

have you considered trying something natural? like kava root. you can buy it in tea bags, extracts, etc. but it isn't good to overuse. it does help with anxiety and sleep issues though.

How about a light dose of Xanax or Ativan? Be careful...those can be habit-forming. But they will address your anxiety and sleep issues.

CBT

ambien is safe

A first approach is passion flower tea. This tea is prepared with hot water and will need ten minutes.
It is reducing/removing anxiety (1 cup) and causing sleep (2 cups). Sleep problems may come from an underlying depression. The troublemaker is interleukine-6 which is constantly elevated in blood during depression and causing a time shift of 2 hours too early in circadian rhythm at sleep time.
It is downgrading the quality of sleep and shortening non-REM phases which in return is causing day time tiredness ( and a partly destroyed immune system). There are some methods known to correct this situation, for example Resveratrol is popular because there no side effects known. Resveratrol is gained from the skin of red grapes. Alternative you may eat a bunch a of red grapes. Walnuts and almonds are great mood lifters with a build in antidepressant which is the same as in mother milk (uridine). No side effects known. The combination fishoil (aka omega-3 capsules) 3000 mg and walnuts (4 oz) is very strong and the kick in time is around a week. If you add a walk in the sunshine immune system will be thankful for restoring (because of vitamin D3) and you will be less vulnerable to infections of the upper respiratory tract.
