I was suffering from depression a long while back , i had the exact same feelings as you did also. One day when i was at a real low i suddenly said to myself "No, i can beat this s**t , how dare this s**t try and drag me down" "i am much stronger than this". I decided to find something to keep my mind on and that was d.i.y , of all things. But i am now fully over it and do a lot of jobs for people and i'm actually making money off it , but most of all Amy i am back with my family , and that was the reason depression hit me. Keep your chin up and be proud of who you are and make sure you get out a lot and spend time with people you can relate to. Take care hun'. RICHARD.

dont be alone, try going out with your friends. The best medicine that can get rid of depression, is to stop thinking that you have depression. Sleep a lot. eat balanced food. Avoid caffiene n alcohol. Get more exercise. try to do something that will get make you happy! for example sometimes i feel quite low but i like 2 listen to music....it makes me happy!! :)

After all, we all have only one life to live..so why not live it happily!!! :) :)

Hello Amy. I've experienced deep depression when I was doing badly at university so I think I know how you feel. What you mention about one minute feeling low then suddenly feeling fine is also familar to me as well. You will notice a common theme amongst advice from other people that have made it through bouts of depression. Firstly, that it will not last for ever and secondly that the way to speed up your recovery from it is to apply your mind to things that bring you joy as opposed to pain. If you can't find anything positive to apply your mind to then the next best thing is to quiet the judgmental comments in your mind some other way. Meditation works very well for many people to this effect. When you are feeling low all you need to do is find a quiet space by yourself, sit comfortably, close your eyes and breathe slowly and deeply from your abdomen. While you are doing this it is very important that you focus your full attention on your breathing alone. Any time your mind tries to wander away, gently guide it back to listening to the sound of your breathing. It sounds simple and in many ways it is, however it is normal to have feelings of "this is a waste of time" or "I can't do this" at first. You should almost expect it. Try doing this the first time for 15 mins. Next time try it for a bit longer and then a bit longer still. If you can reach an hour of meditation without your mind wandering off on other worries and anxieties, you will find that when you open you eyes a different quality of thoughts will be present, ones that are more at ease with your circumstances and outlook on life.

Remember you are NOT alone and there are people who love you very much. Your thoughts are just thoughts and they can sometimes (lets say often for most people!) lie to you and they can be changed. Take control of your mind or it will control you!

PS for a surprisingly plausible explanation to the underlying and basic root cause of depression and all suffering I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend googling "Eckhart Tolle" and "pain-body". You said you don't know why you feel the way you do, science on the other hand cannot explain everything and so I would advise you to at least keep an open mind if you are serious about feeling better. Good luck

I went through something similar few years ago. Believe me, it will go away. It's just something that we go through - by the end of it you'll be a stronger person. The thing that helped me personally was travelling alone. I used to travel and go to places I'd never been before; used to observe other people and see how they approached their life. Also, during this time, I picked up new hobbies to distract myself, such as photography. Now, after going through such a tough time, having no one to talk to, I didn't even see the doctor, I feel I've passed the most difficult stage of life. Once, you realise there is a way out, you'll know in your heart that this 'low' feeling won't last forever. My advice would be to pick up a hobby which you enjoy and you can see yourself going far in. Hope it helps.

Depression is one of the hardest things to get through. It feels never ending and sometimes I don't think I can hang on any longer. It can be hell at times. People always tell me not to keep things in and that it'll help to just let it all out to someone but I just can't do that. The only advice I can give you is, don't try to be strong. It hurts and it's sad so just let it all out at once. Get drunk or cry it out, doing both works too. The last time I was depressed I listened to Kiss the Rain by Yiruma and had a cry session, then I drunk texted everyone on my list and called up a good buddy of mine. (LOL it was insane) It did get me out of it though so you should try it sometime.
