Why do drugs like Concerta, Ritalin or any ADD/ADHD related medicines stunt grow!

Question: Why do drugs like Concerta, Ritalin or any ADD/ADHD related medicines stunt growth?
I cannot find ANY information as to what causes drugs such as Concerta or Ritalin to stunt growth. The drug companies mention it in passing, but I cannot find any medical reasons or professional explanations on the matter. Do drug companies leave health care professionals in the dark to continue the push of their drugs? What are the neurological reasons that this happens? I would like to know how it happens, I already know about the side affects and results.

Answers:

I take ADD medicine and my sister does as well and it did not stunt our growth at all. I am 18 and she is 15 and we have been taking it for at least 7 or 8 years. My sister is actually taller than the doctors thought she would be. Medicine works differently depending on the person. Just because it is listed as a side effect doesn't mean that it is 100% going to happen no matter what it just means that it might possibly happen. This is why most health care professionals do not mention it because it is not likely to happen (it has to be listed though if it is even .1% possible for legal concerns). I wouldn't say the reasons it happens when it does are necessarily neurological. All people aren't going to have this reaction so it really just depends on who takes it.
