My mind is a blank...is this depression?!

Question: My mind is a blank...is this depression?
I'm in my first year of University. It's a wonder how I even got here. I just seem to lack a level of interest in reading, writing, and talking about things in groups. For example: In seminars everyone has something to say, but I won't even open my mouth because I know what I have to say isn't very academically smart but it could be if I was at least interested in what we were discussing. I don't find anything interesting anymore. It's like I'm faking it if I do try and pretend that I'm interested in something.

I've noticed that essays take me almost a whole month to do, because even after I've read a whole article, my mind is just blank. I know exactly what I read, but how could I possibly put this into words? Is this depression? I've noticed some other things as well...I was a lot different in elementary school, always top of the class, bright and motivated:s

I don't seem to fall into a hands on type of job either. Absolutely nothing in college seems to suit me either. Just don't have that level of interest. Maybe I was meant to work at the grocery store...really not sure at this point.

Hi dear, I understand what you are going through completely. Many people experience similar situations and struggle and question themselves a lot. Change is really hard. You are under a lot of pressure with studies plus everything is new at this university to you, new location, new people...it is a lot and it is completely understandable to be second guessing yourself right now. Hang in there. Don't let a bump in the road derail your "trip around the world" (your life). Keep the big life picture in mind. If you are a traditional college age person you have roughly about 50 years to work.

One thing that helped me through school was a few tripple strength fish oil pills for concentration and 2-3 st johns wort for depression/mood every morning with a lot of water. You may want to ask a doctor or your parents if that would be okay for you to take. Taking those made a huge difference for me. ...I just finished my degree in accounting in December 2010 by the way.

I hope things get better for you! Take care! Hugs!
