I was just wondering........?!

Question: I was just wondering........?
I have a doctors appointment today because I had a relapse in panic attacks/agoraphobia. I think my tinnitus (constant and very loud) triggered it, and my hearing aids were broken.

I was feeling normal for months until this week. I am on the maximum dose of Paxil, but my doctor is hesitant to prescribe me any anxiety medication. I don't want to be dependent on meds either, but it would be good to have on hand in emergency

What other treatments are there? Anything I can suggest? How can I get my doctor to understand how painful my panic attacks are?

Answers:

I get panic attacks occasionally. They're hell.
There's nothing you can do to "get your doctor to understand." Some doctors will get it, others wont. Try a different doctor - but ask around for a good one that cares about patients.

There are non-medical strategies for panic attacks, so you might want to seek out a clinical psychologist for other strategies. Essentially, one of the important things to do is - and this might sound weird - not panic about the fact that you're having a panic attack!
Knowing that it will pass, and letting it pass is a big part of dealing with it.

other meds would include beta blockers they are a bit slower then benzodiazepams but they are not addictive either

there are other anti depressants as well such as prozac that are good for anxiety

some ppl find releif with things like kalms or bach flower remedies but talk to your dr

best wishes

None that i know of, but i would def talk to your DR. I don;t see why s/he wouldn't.
