How to withdraw from St John's Wort?!

Question: How to withdraw from St John's Wort?
Hi there,

I've been on St John's Wort for just over a month now to try and treat mild depression/anxiety. I'm now wanting to come off it for various reasons and I was hoping someone could let me know the best and most sensible way of withdrawing from it.

I would go see my doctor and ask them but to be honest getting an appointment you have to wait ages and I really just want to come off it asap. In the past whenever I've withdrawed from medication its made me feel very low and emotional so I've got to be very careful.

Answers:

St John's Warts is more of a natural remedy and should not have severe withdrawal symptoms like other SSRIs.

That said, if you want to reduce the risk of having any withdrawal symptoms, simply reduce your intake gradually.

The best would be to take half your current consumption weekly. If you're taking one capsule every day, take 1/2 a pill a day (break it if possible). Next week, take 1/2 every other day. By the third week, simply stop taking it completely.

If you can't break the pill, just take it once every other day. It's not as good for your system, but it's better than going completely cold turkey.
