Depressed at night, what should I do?!

Question: Depressed at night, what should I do?
I usually have no problem during the day keeping happy, but when it hits around 11:00 PM, suddenly I'm really depressed and scared of everything. I'm scared a holocaust will affect me. I'm scared of a war here. I'm scared of murderers. I feel like I will die very painfully, and that really scares me so much. Even rooming with someone else doesn't help that much. I think it's also the dark that affects me. How do I deal with this?

You're not alone. I mean this both in support terms, but also how there are many like you who are concerned about the same things. That's actually a good sign because it shows awareness and that people do care and know when things are wrong. You should have a journal and write in it, and you should meditate and pray. These really help and give hope.

No, don't watch television at all, whether at night or anytime. It's not the tv of the 50s to the early 90s. It's complete trash now.

What you are experiencing at night is normal--you may just have a little bit of anxiety. If it continues, I would talk to a psychiatrist about it. Do anything that helps you calm down, such as reading a book or meditating and listening to music. And remember, this is all in your head. Try to cancel out the thoughts you're having. Everything is going to be alright! Also remember, the dark and being alone at night tends to make people scared, and therefore, they worry about irrational things.

You might want to also try taking some form of sleep aid. I recommend Melatonin and sleepy time tea. Take this around 9 or so and maybe you can get to sleep before these symptoms begin taking place. Good luck with everything. If it continues I would seek professional help.

Also, is there a tv show or movie that makes you feel at peace? If so, I would watch that every night before bed.

go to a doctor and find out what is wrong

I know how you feel, everything i worse and more upsetting at night. Do you tend to watch tv at night? This seems to be my problem... I always watch criminal murder shows or the news which always makes me scared of people and depressed. So maybe if you want watching things that upset you you could stop and turn a comedy on or rent one to lift your mood.

I would also suggest prayer. Maybe you don't believe in God or know Him, but I am telling you sometimes this is the ONLY thing that puts my mind at ease. If I am having a really negative thought that upsets me, I ask God to help me redirect my thoughts to something positive, and I ask Him to help me in the future to think more positively. He really can help you in ways you would never think of, it is pretty amazing.

So, you can watch a comedy or funny tv, talk to God about how you feel, and you could also download some enlightening music to listen to. Music is very powerful at changing moods and attitudes about the world.. but you have to find the right stuff. Do some research on uplifting tunes and get a hold of them!

I would also suggest exercise sometime in the afternoon. This really is a great toxin release for your body. It can get rid of a lot of negative energy that is built up in your mind and body. Exercise also releases endorphins which will put you in a great mood afterwards. I would suggest at least a few hours before bed though so you can wind down.

You could also just go to sleep! Sometimes sleep is the best remedy for a bad mood... and if you get up early to start your day you will feel even better. The morning sunrise brings a lot of hope, and just going to sleep will bring the daylight faster :) Good luck hope this helps
