Take your cues from the people around you. Use them as a guide. If they seem relaxed and are having a good time, then you can too. Be aware that your response to any given situation may not be shared by anyone else. If so, realize that your feelings are unwarranted.
Don't have 'No' be your default setting. The bad things you worry about, almost never happen. I bet most of them have never happened at all.
Just remember, if every one else can do it, so can you.

first, make sure that there isn't another problem - are you getting enough sleep? Is if of a good quality? Lack of sleep can cause anxiety problems.

Are you getting too much caffeine? Could over the counter or prescription medications be causing you these problems? Even things like acne meds, birth control pills, cold remedies and many others can cause problems. Sleeping pills are really much like benzos and can cause serious problems.

Some people like the lucinda bassett program. It's expensive, but I have read that it is often available for 1/2 off on Ebay, and you must be sure to get the workbooks. Also the anxiety and phobia workbook by edmund bourne had some things that I thought were good.

to me, learning to breathe properly helped - instead of shallow breaths in your chest, you should breathe deep in your abdomen, so you feel your belly go up and down. then slow the breaths down to as slow as is comfortable to you, and you can even have a little mantra in your head. I just think innnnnnnnnnn ouuuuuuuuut innnnnnnnnnn ouuuuuuuuuuuut but you can think up any words.

meditation helped me too, and you can google around and download free guided imageries. there are some in that Bourne book, and you can make a recording and listen to that.

there is free cognitive behavioral therapy at australia nat'l university's moodgym. It's got tests for "warpy thinking" and it's kinda fun and kinda dorky. I like it.

I rationalize everything. If I can make sense of it, I'm less likely to get stressed out. I also like to think everything through before I get started on a project and anticipate different ways of accomplishing a task so I don't hit any dead ends, because that can be super stressful.
