i think my daughter has depression please help!?!

Question: I think my daughter has depression please help!?
shes been sad lost of energy and will not eat

Answers:

I have suffered with depression for years. I grew up in the 60's and 70's people didn't talk about depression. I wasn't motivated and felt sad all of the time. My mom thought I was lazy. I was not at all. She did her best, as I said people were not informed about depression. It is great that you are aware of your daughter's needs. You can help her. She has to be taken to the doctor. Don't keep putting it off. Does she have an aunt or another family that might help you talk with her? When someone is depressed it is hard for them to be motivated into going to a doctor or therapist. She may have something bothering her that she might not want to talk to you about and will talk to someone else about it. That is not unusual for a child to not open up to a family member.
She definitely needs help depression is very serious. She might need medication. I had to seek help with several doctors before I got the help I needed. I did get help and I have a wonderful life now. You are being a great mom.

Lived with depression for years. Mother of two daughters.

People act like talking just solves everything. It only works if the other person listens or cares.

First, try socialization. Most problems at this age are related to social things they don't tell their parents about.

Don't force her to eat, it adds to drama. Maybe later, but not yet.

Take her out, to the zoo or something. Don't ask her. Just say get in the car and take her some place. If she has friends you know about try to get them to go. Get her out of the house.

You should tell her what you would tell her if she told you what she has. for example tell her about boys, about period and about things that might make her understand that she can trust you.

You should talk to your daughter about she feels. Communication is the key! You should also ask if she wants to go see a therapist. I went to one, and it really helped!
