I can't cry but need to. Why?!

Question: I can't cry but need to. Why?
I've suffered from depression for the last few years and I have always been able to cry. I have cried and cried and it helps. It really is good to cry. But lately I can't cry. I feel like I'm holding it all in inside and its giving me a horrible feeling inside like the tears need to come out of my body. They need to escape. I have done everything to make myself cry but its not working. I wake up with these horrible pains in my chest and stomach. I know I need to let it out. I know all it will take is one person to say one thing and I will explode into tears. The question is why can't I cry?I used to be able to?

Hey, it's okay. I want you to think to yourself why exactly crying helps you. Is it the tears that make you feel better? Because then you should do something like sniff onions to make your eyes water. Is it the sobbing motions? It's possible to sob even without tears. You should watch something like a really sad movie. Honey, I think the biggest problems is you're trying too hard. Not crying won't hurt you in any way,and you can't force yourself to. Acknowledge that not crying isn't your real problem. Think of what is, and try to fix it. Then you can be glad that you don't even need to cry anymore!

Personal experience

Crying doesn't help your body in any way, nothing bad will happen if you don't. I haven't cried in years and I am fine. You don't need to be emotional all the time. It sounds like you are too stressed and paranoid and that is making everything worse. You just need to take a breath and relax. Go sit outside or do something relaxing for a bit, see if that makes you feel better.

Maybe not trying so hard will help.
