i have a uncle that has been clean and off drugs for 8 years and i told my grand!

Question: I have a uncle that has been clean and off drugs for 8 years and i told my grandparents that i am going to one?
of his NA meetings with him because i am very proud of him for staying clean. when i told my grandparents that i going to go, they thought i was crazy and that made me angry and they said it is not worth going. but i am going to go with him no matter what. what can i do to tell them that i am not crazy? how can i make them see how great he is doing? any advice thanks.

Answers:

they should go to a meeting themselves. that may be the only way for them to see the truth. do they not care at all that he's gotten clean and stayed clean? how exactly is crazy for you to want to be supportive of a family member's recovery?

it sounds like they are stubbornly holding on to their assumptions about him - they've probably been through a lot of pain and suffering because of his addiction. some family counseling would be helpful maybe as well.

they may not agree or understand your support of him, but hopefully they will come around. just don't let their negativity affect your love and support of your uncle's sobriety.
