How should I become unspoiled?!

Question: How should I become unspoiled?
I admit, I'm incredibly spoiled. For all 16 years of my life, my parents have spoiled, and coddled me. My big mistake was just going with the flow and accepting it.

I think my parents like to spoil me for this main reason, they lived in a third world country and now that they're in Canada, they want to give me all the things that they never had.

While I do appreciate how they want to do this for me, I'm fearing about the future, and how I'll cope with the real world after high school. Also, I've recently realized how other people have it far worse, and just try to survive while I complain about the most trivial things that I take for granted. For example people in Libya, Japan, the Philippines, Africa, and people in the streets of my very own city have it far worse than me.

My parents do everything for me, cooking and cleaning mostly. Usually I get what I want, without having to rant and whine and cry if they say no. If they do say no, I don't mind so much. I don't think I'm materially spoiled, but I'm mostly spoiled in home life and with love, if that makes any sense.

Also, my parents are highly overprotective. They avoid me taking the bus, train, going out with friends, etc. They forbid me to get a job until I graduate high school (although I'm trying to convince them to let me get a job this summer, so I can get a taste of the real world). They don't let me go to the north of the city for the youth ministry at my church because they think the area is too dangerous. I don't go against their wishes because I'm usually a people pleasure and don't like it when my parents are disappointed by me.

Not to mention that I'm lazy (isn't this proof of my laziness right here?). But when it comes to schoolwork, I'm not so lazy.

So are these valid ways to get me more unspoiled?

-Do more chores
-Get a summer job
-Ask my mom how to cook
-Restrict internet usage (to do more productive things :P)
-Get a valid hobby to get more discipline (for example, learning an instrument)

What else can you suggest? How can I change my attitude so that I actually try harder to become unspoiled?

Answers:

Hey,

Well the fact that you realize it is probably the biggest step. The most annoying thing about spoiled people is that they tend to think they are better than everyone else. As long as that's not your case, you're good to go. Always be humble and eager to learn, and you'll do fine.

It's a good idea to help out your parents. You'll feel less silly you need to live alone and have your own cooking & cleaning to do.

There's no valid hobby. Or rather, a valid hobby is something you enjoy, internet included.

Try to cut the cord a little bit. A summer job would be great. You could also go backpacking somewhere with some friends if your parents let you.

well for real, if u honestly want to know how to 'BECOME UNSPOILD' GO OUT COMITT A CRIME AND GO DO A LITTLE TIME. if u really wanna know and you are serious. that will work, trust me.

thats really humble of you to not want to be spoiled. enjoy it while your young, most people who are spoiled never take responsibility for anything their whole lives. focus on school right now and just do the little things like help your parents cook or clean up after yourself
