How do I tell my parents I cut!!?!

Question: How do I tell my parents I cut!!?
I'm almost 14 and I'm suicidal, depressed and I have a cutting addiction along many other problems. My mom knows I'm depressed, which is the reason she took me to a counselor.
I have over 80 cuts. Will that be enough to get sent to a behavioral or mental hospital?
See, my best friend is also suicidal and started cutting. Her friend that found out threatened to tell her mom if she didn't tell her, so she did tell her mom.
Her mom took her to the doctors and they're sending her to a behavioral hospital tonight.
She is so stressed that I want to go there too, so she's not alone. I also want to get away from everyone for a while.
I have been feeling a strong need to tell my mom that I cut, but my mom is extremely emotional and I know it will change the way she sees me.

She won't trust me anymore and she'll cry for a very long time. I am so, so so so afraid about telling the counselor to tell my mom because of that. My dad will blame it all on my mom and they will feel like bad parents even though they aren't.

I see my counselor tomorrow and after tomorrow I won't see her again until the week after.
Would I be required to go to a hospital for that? Or could I if I wanted to?
Please, please help me.

Ok, You may not listen, you may not want to hear this answer, but it's time to be brave and get some help. You have to approach your Mum whether you want to or not, try to get her at the right moment, like after you come home from school and she's had a break. So she's nice and relaxed. Tell her you wish to speak to her about something personal and to hear you out before she comments. Tell her exactly what's wrong and what you've been doing to herself. A parents natural reaction is to get upset because your part of them. Cutting is nobody's fault, and if there wise enough they should understand. Having 80 self inflicted cuts upon your body is not something to take lightly, so you may be sent to a mental health unit, but being there just because your friend doesn't want to be alone is not the right reason for being there. The bottom line is Parents are there to help you, however they need to, if it means sending you to a hospital to recover and get some much needed help.

If your suicidal I suggest you tell your parents right away and go straight to the Emergency room. Get them to look at your wounds and then they will probably make you speak to a councilor, from there they can admit to you the mental health unit if necessary. If you work with them it will probably work out for the best, if your willing to get help then they will be more willing to help you.

Take care and look after yourself.

I've been a self harmer since the age of 12, I'm turning 19 this year. I have over 1000 self inflicted scars on my body, I suffer from Autism, ADHD and Bipolar disorder. I lost my Mum at age 11, was molested at age 12, became addicted to substances at the age of 16. raped at age 17, I have a Dad with Schizophrenia. I went to therapy for 3 years straight, been in the mental health unit 5 times. I've attempted suicide more times than I can count on my fingers and toes.

But most of all, I SURVIVED. & I'm alive to tell my story. & You can too.

Start slow. Tell the counselor about some of the issues you have. But not about the cutting. See if that helps, and if it does tell her the next time you have a meeting with her.

Of course your parents are going to get emotional, for many reasons, you kept a serious secret from them. But that doesn't mean you don't deserve help.

Let your counselor know about how your parents are going to react. She can come up with solutions for you on how to come about telling them and dealing with it. Stay strong, find people you trust and confide in them.

I want to help. First off it would probably help to tell your counselor or mom... Though it's tough depression and suicide are VERY serious things and there are people who care even though it may not seem like it at times. For instance, if I didn't care then I wouldn't take the time to try to help :) I'm a teen and I know what depression is like. But remember there is ALWAYS hope and always a way to get through it all. Just keep pushing. Tell someone and put aside your fear because they all just want to help you and that's the most important thing right now. Your parents love you and will still love you. It will be hard for them to take and it's hard to say how they'll react but it comes down to the fact that they love you and care about you a lot. I care too!

If you want to hospitalized, you can either go the any ER, or you can tell your counselor that you are having suicidal thoughts and you have been cutting. Your counselor would be the one to tell your parents. It sounds as if you could use a mediator and your counselor could serve as one. If you want to tell your mother, tell her. Mention all of the reasons not to in your question here. It shows that you do care for your mother, and it shows that you sincerely want help. Your mother will recover. She needs to know in order to help you, as does your therapist.Get it all out in the open and get help. I wish you the best in your recovery and life.
