What to do if you feel too ashamed to talk about something that happened?!


Question: What to do if you feel too ashamed to talk about something that happened?
Something hurtful and embarrassing happened to me a little while ago. I would really like to talk about it with someone, but I have been avoiding it - I think because I feel ashamed about it.

In this kind of situation, is it better to talk with someone anyway? I was thinking of calling an emotional support hotline. Or, if you really feel ashamed, would it do damage (to me and/or the person I talk with) to talk about it before you get past the shame?

You should definitely tell someone. It would be better to tell someone you are really close to and trust not to tell anyone else or judge you for it (like your best friend or a family member). If you really can't tell someone you know, call the hotline for sure. Not only will you get the heavy feeling off your chest, but you will hear the perspective of another person and gain insight and understanding about what happened, why, etc. and how you can get over the shame of it, learn from it, and move on.



If you have a really close relative or friend that you think would be able to talk. Also you can email this guy who is anonymous, he just answers the questions you dont feel comfortable asking someone.

You should talk about it with your most trusted friend/relative. It might help you feel better after. Or you can go talk with an expert. But I recommend you to ask someones help if that thing really hurted you.



Yes, it's a good idea to talk to someone because you will feel different afterwards. You can call hotline or go to a counselor.



You would definatly need a councilor, schools often have free ones.
