My friend tried to commit suicide. The hospital is letter her out after 2 days?!

Question: My friend tried to commit suicide. The hospital is letter her out after 2 days?
She tried slitting her wrists. After she did it, and she did it deep, she called the cops and they sent a bus over and got her and brought her to the hospital. She also has tons of cuts on her legs and stomach, visable scars, from cutting. She told me they were able to let her out early because she was there volentarily. How is that possible?

USA -> Florida -> Boca Raton, unless rules/regulations are country wide? idk.

Anyone ahve an idea? I think shes bullshitting me...but...idk.

Umm... ususally hospitals put people who harm themselves under a 72 hour hold for a psychological evaluation (and if I remember correctly, once they are there they have to be evaluated). I know that Boca Raton has one... under the Baker Act an institution (hospital or w/e) has to hold them for that period of time to evaluate whether or not they are a threat to themselves or others. Now I'm pretty sure it's after they've determined it to be a "yes" or a "no" they ask the patient whether or not they want to VOLUNTARILY stay for treatment, if not they have to let them go. Something does sound off, but you have to sit your friend down and try and find out. I really hope this helps you out, and that your friend will be alright. And dude, come on, regardless if it's stupid or if she wants attention, doing this is not normal, she needs the attention because she needs help.

:/ In any case, good luck. Your friend is lucky to have someone like you who sincerely cares.

^ I know it's Wikipedia but I'll put another article from a paper that has it in there...

lol she didn't try to commit suicide. i know because nobody who actually intends to commit suicide cuts their wrists. not only is it very painful and slow, but it also very hard to die from, as once you slice one wrist (if you do it properly) you can't slice the other one because the tendons are cut. secondly, she called the police, so obviously she didn't intend to die.

lol this is stupid. she's just trying to get attention. you don't need someone like that in your life.

edit: bene, i didn't say you couldn't die from it. i just said it is harder than say... jumping off a 30 storey building. usually, people who commit suicide by slitting their wrists are insane or just want to be found before they actually die.

The answerer 'Easter egg' has given an opinion so disgusting that they seem to need extensive mental health treatment themselves.
When someone gets shot, that's just from one tiny metal bullet, and they still die, I cannot imagine how anyone who claims any brain cells can think you cannot die from slitting wrists.

As to the asker, Your friend will probably see a therapist that will mentally evaluate + keep a very close eye on her condition, and will report to her doctor how she is doing, don't worry, its hard to take on board when someone does this i know, but the health professionals know what they are doing :)

I have been in the same situation, an still am. What you need to do is be peasant. What i mean by that is when she comes home be peasant with her. Listen to her when she has something to say. Try to help but i a going to let you know that there is a certain point to where you need to tell someone and try to et her more help. And i know you think she should stay longer but you don't have any control over that, so i just think you should do the things i suggested and things should get better. :):);0 good luck
