Would you necessarily know if you have Bipolar Disorder?!

Question: Would you necessarily know if you have Bipolar Disorder?
I sorta doubt that I would, but I've noticed constant and frequent extreme mood swings, from being really upbeat and happy to depressed and angry within hours of each other. I have also had a terrible time trying to go to sleep for the last couple months. I was just wondering if I would know if I was Bipolar or if I would really need to go to a doctor to see.

Answers:

That isn't Bipolar. Bipolar mood swings last for weeks or months and only change 2 or 3 times a year..... rapid mood swings like you describe are more likely due to hormones, lack of sleep, stress.... but it is NOT Bipolar.

Bipolar disorder is not like schizophrenia. There is no disconnect from reality. Someone with bipolar is often very well aware that what they're feeling and experiencing is not normal, and if they are familiar with the symptoms they may very well realize exactly what it is. Remember, bipolar disorder most often presents in a person's late teens or early 20's so there's a strong awareness of "normal" emotions. Even if you do realize what might be wrong with you, you still need to see a doctor. Untreated, bipolar disorder can progress and become very severe. I knew when I walked into my school's counseling services that I had bipolar disorder because it runs in my family and I had an extensive background in psychology. But knowing didn't help. I needed to be on medications.

Not necessarily, because you think your emotions are justified and have reasonable causes when you have the disorder, much like an alcoholic saying they don't have a problem, the issue lies in the subconscious, I wasn't diagnosed until I was 13, but after getting on meds I saw how irrationally emotional I was before.

I think you should really go to a therapist just to make sure. If it is anything different than your normal behavior then it is a concern. It could also be your way of dealing with things that are bothering you, maybe if something bad happened to you. If you think about it, it can make you feel upset and angry. If your moods are random and you do not know where they are coming from, then I suggest you talk to someone and figure out what is triggering your feelings

i have no idea if i am but i believe i am because i have insane mood swings at the drop of a hat, from happy to near suicidal really really quickly. and because of something stupid like a teacher yelling at me for talking too much. so if you have an extremely short fuse and have insane mood swings then maybe. but first check with a doctor

you need to see a psychiatrist fro a proper diagnosis and treatment. there are a lot of things ,such as hormones, that can be causing these feelings and reactions that only a professional can properly diagnose.

been there.

it's prob best to see a doctor but I have worked with ppl that have bi polar and wot u r describing does sound like bi polar
