Is it alright to drink while on Celexa?!

Question: Is it alright to drink while on Celexa?
I've been taking 20 mg Celexa for a little over a month for anxiety, and I was just wondering if it's okay to drink. I don't drink often at all and when I do I don't drink a lot.

Answers:

I don't recommend it. Celexa is a form of Prozac (its in the same family) I used to take it for mild anxiety. I don't recommend you drink with it at all. It can cause wierd reactions in some people.

It's really not recommended to drink alcohol while taking antidepressants, for a couple reasons.

Alcohol is a depressant, and counteracts the effects of the antidepressant you're paying a lot of money for. Also... both alcohol and the antidepressants put a "load" on your liver - and you don't want to "nuke" the ole liver before its time =)

I have an occasional drink... as long as you don't do it often, and keep it to a drink or two, you'll be okay. Just be careful and don't overdo it, and you'll be fine.
.

I take generic Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) with dinner, for depression and anxiety. I've been taking that for over two years, and it's working very well for me.

It's always recommended to not use alcohol when taking psych medications. I'm going to leave it at that.
