Question: Should I still live in the same area as my abuser?

I'm moving away from my brother who's incredibly abusive, but I don't know if I should still stay in the same neighborhood or if I should move somewhere else. I really like my neighborhood, I'm familiar with it, but at the same time, it gives me memories of like the physical/emotional abuse I suffered so yea I don't know which one to go with. Thanks for any adivce.

You shouldnt let him keep the "power" over you but then again for your sanity it might be better if you move a little farther.Also you can get a restraining order.That would tell him your serious and dont want to be messed with.

I always ask myself in such situations: "What is the safest thing I can do?"

Answers:

1. move to someplace that you've never mentioned as being your dream/vacation home, and,

2. obtain a protection order from your local Family Court (call the court clerk [or Domestic Violence])

If you think you shouldn't stay in an area as your brother, you should report the abuse to the police right away. You can find a different that's not as close to where your brother lives.

Get as far away from him as possible.

Get a restraining order.

There are lots of good neighborhoods...there is only one abusive brother.
