What questions would a psychiatrist ask?!

Question: What questions would a psychiatrist ask?
Next week I'm going to go see the psychiatrist because I've been having some psychological symptoms such as voices, delusions and such.

I was just wondering what I should be prepared for.

Answers:

They'll ask you about the voices. You can already tell that they are not real so you should't worry about them trying to hospitalize you or anything. Knowing you are hearing voices is a good thing. They're just going to do a work up on you and go from there.

The first question we are taught in healthcare is to ask "What brought you here today?" He or she will want to know how they can help you and what has brought you to their office. Some might have a more oblique approach, especially if you're younger, but personally I prefer directness. Remember, you as the patient/client are in charge of the visit--they are providing a service. They will shake your hand and say something like "How are you doing?" Be honest. "I'm scared" or "Not good" are common responses.

They'll ask you how many voices, what they say, if they give you instructions, what the delusions are about, how much you believe them to be true, whether you consume alcohol or take drugs. Be prepared for a lot of questions but just be honest.
