Query about Antidepressants?!

Question: Query about Antidepressants?
I am wondering how to go about going on antidepressants. When you go to the doctor, is there further tests they have to put you through to make sure you are eligible? Or will they need to refer me to a therapist and they make the decision?
I've been depressed for 4 years and it has become really severe recently. I've been referred to a therapist in my first year of depression but it just didn't do anything for me so I stopped going. I have spoken to a friend as well and I just find that talking about things just doesn't help me, so any information regarding the next step is welcome.

Answers:

have a talk with your doctor again about your situation,he may prescribe antidepressants for you.
I was on antidepressants for 6 years but was able to wean myself off them,
Do not expect an instant cure from them as they take around 6 to 8 weeks before they start working,Many people make the mistake of stopping their medication too soon because they think it is not working.
But please see your doctor first.
Be well.

I think it's best to go back to your GP and tell him what you've told us here. I've never been on antidepressants so can't comment but he may be able to recommend some kind of alternative therapy. Good luck - I wish you all the best.

Dont get them you get hooked and they alter your personality. Your best to try and fight depression without them as hard as that may sound.
