It is hard to overcome because the user doesn't have a care in the world. Everything is fine to them and nothing could go wrong when they're high. Imagine floating on a cloud, but better.

Yes, a person could quit cold turkey but that is pretty difficult. Some people, like Janis Joplin when she was still alive, can be casual users who control their habit but they are rare. Janis did die from an overdose, but only because she got a batch of heroin that was cut with God knows what when she was used to getting pure heroin from her dealer. It is difficult to quit because of how it makes the user feel. When they're not getting that high, something is missing in their life and they can't resist getting high again. It takes a great deal of effort to quit.

my name is John and i am a heroin addict, i sold my left testicle for a gram of the stuff, every day i think back to the day i made that decision and cry to myself because, i wish i had it again so i don't have to go out everyday and choke up some guys *** but it doesn't matter because at the end of the day i can get enough money to get my hands on some of that sweet pain relieving powder. i sold my best friends testicles for money while he was asleep.

i want your testicles!

i was once addicted to Vicodin. Heroine and Vicodin are opiates and i would think they have the same feeling when addicted but not sure. i some-what came over it with my will but took a long time, i gave the last of my pills to a good friend and i would take half a pill less a day till i started feeling less withdraws, still after every pill was gone i still felt like i needed them badly and after a wile felt better. i dont dare go near those things again.

Heroin isn't only mentally addicting but physically. Coming off of it your body experiences terrible pain, trembling, sweating, headaches -- major withdrawals that can be dangerous.
