I have had depression for 4 years and haven't even told my mum. PLEASE help!

Question: I have had depression for 4 years and haven't even told my mum. PLEASE help me?
I was very young when I started to get depression and I'm now into my GCSE years and am feeling more and more down as time goes by. I get very ill and so am off school a lot and have just today got a detention for not being in school. I wasn't in school partially because I'm ill and partially because I don't have my work but I wasn't in and he still gave me a detention. I haven't done my work because I wasn't in for the last 3 lessons. I don't know what to do. My sister has depression and when she told my mum, my mum told me that it nearly broke her heart. Both my parents have depression, all my aunts and uncle's have depression and all my grandparents have depression so it sounds genetic to me. I don't know whether to tell my mum or not. I've had several breakdowns and outbursts and nothing has come of it. I also have a problem with my anger. Anyway, please help me, is there anything I can do that doesn't involve going to see someone in person otherwise I have to tell my mother but my school work is now suffering because of it and because of my illness. I need help but I don't know where or how to get it. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help. After 4 years, I'm pretty desperate.

Don't listen to CreamBanana -- clinical depression is absolutely an illness, and it's mostly genetic. No, you're not just experiencing hormones. A lot of teenagers mistake their angst and hormonal sadness for depression, but you seem like you're not one of them -- especially given your genetics. You really need to be evaluated by a doctor and undergo some kind of treatment. I think you should pull your sister aside for a conversation about what you've been hiding and how to talk to your mother. Whatever you do, don't get defensive or angry while you're speaking with your mom -- even if she does. She'll just turn any hostility from you into unnecessary anger, when really it's emotional hurt that needs to be addressed. So just remain calm and collected; you can cry, too. That might actually help show her that it's for real.

Is there a helpline that you can contact? I know that isn't always helpful, but is someone at the end of the phone. Maybe you have to find a way of seeing someone, even if your mother would be upset, although it sounds like there is a conflict there of interests. Try and be with kind people, those who can tell you are OK after a bad day.

Dear actually you needs to be engaged with your friends and make your mind busy and dont even think about this and do that things which you like the most. You can make a special friend and share your daily routine it will help you out INSHALLAH

Tell her. And don't take medication--it leads to worse depression in the long term.

?.?

I wouldn't advise taking medication they can make you suicidal.

Use to take zoloft.

Well find someone that your close with to talk to. (; Like your sister or something. Someone you know you can depend on. I know you wont want to see anyone but its the best. Some things you can do. Write it down, draw stuff. Find something that you like doing and put it to work and coordinate it to work out the things that your feeling bad or sad or mad etc. about. Dont worry about that stuff. Just tell your counselor that you have depression and your not focusing. Your not feeling well and tell her to keep that between you and her. Maybe you can talk to your nurse about it. Say it as if someone else had it . One of your friends and make up a name and see what advise they could give you. Try different people say its one of your best friends and your worried about her and she wont ask. Your trying to find out ways to help her. If I were you I'd go and do that. And work on things that make me happy. If going with friends is it then coordinate with your parents. Tell her you need to step out or something. Find something to do. I'm no expert but Im sure that you can get something out of all that . : ) heyy dont forget your not suppose to smile ! JUSTTT KIDDING (: CHEER UP (: I KNOW YOU CAN DO THIS (:
