Are there classes i can go to or people i can see that would help me improve on !

Question: Are there classes i can go to or people i can see that would help me improve on socializing, debating and talk?
It's like when i speak what's on my mind it doesn't come out the way i want to come out. Long story short; i SUCK at talking. It's common for me that i have to think over what i want to say if i'm having a conversation with somebody. If i get put on the spot in a debate or argument i ALWAYS freeze up and i can't think of anything to say and i end up looking like a freaking moron! Regardless if i know whether or not i'm right, when i'm put on the spot i feel pressured and it just doesn't "click". I also stutter, and sometimes i'll confuse people with my poor choice of words. I'm always working on my vocabulary and i put some of the blame on that. But the thing is, i haven't done much socializing in the past 5 years due to the fact that i was taken out of school and ended up with absolutely no friends to talk to or hang out with. Missing out on school took a BIG hit on my socializing abilities and now as i'm nearing 18 i must pick up the pieces and re-build. Obviously socializing is the most obvious solution but what i'm wondering is if there are speech classes or therapists i could go to who specialize in this sort of thing.

Answers:

Try joining a local chapter of "Toastmasters International" to get help speaking to and in front of people. Google that in quotes for info on this organization and how to find and join a local chapter.

Good luck!

Drama classes can improve confidence greatly:)

When my family gets together, maybe like 36 of us, I go walk in the woods..they don't even notice I am gone..you can't ever finish a sentence, and they will get up and walk away right in the middle of saying something..conversations are always better one on one...I think YA is a great way to learn to express yourself..because you can write and they can't cut in on you...before you finish your sentence...I think you write just fine...you may be like me, you think deep and your sentences are too long, and people just don't really pay attention...like their there but their not there...and you dont feel any fulfillment when talking to people that are drifting off on you...so why waste your words..throw your pearls before swine..the quiet ones are the ones that are watching and thinking the most...maybe the smartest of us. If you want get in a group conversation, keep your comments very short, and don't get your feelings hurt when someone talks over you like you don;t even exist!

In conversations, you're like a hamster who's seen a snake! *Freezes* *Paws in the air*

I'm exactly the same way. I'd suggest going to group therapy to get comfortable talking in front of groups of ppl or even taking acting classes. I've considered taking acting classes but I'm too afraid, maybe you'll feel able to do this & I can live my dreams through you!
