Is it Aspergers or worse?!

Question: Is it Aspergers or worse?
My son is 12, intelligent and shows these symptoms.
Does he have Asperger's Syndrome?:

-Intellectual vocabulary
-VERY IMAGINATIVE in writing and reading, but poor in figurative language with conversation (i.e. takes him a few seconds to register "chill out")
-Can't keep eye contact
-Anxious about every event we haven't been to 1000 times before
-Tiny sounds make him freak out (Gum chewing, eating, scraping, etc)
-Fluorescent lights distract him greatly
-Very socially anxious with new people
-Some friends
-Obsessed with one topic for months (first is was acting last few mos., now chemistry)
-Criticism depresses him; bad news, stress, or punishments make him freak out (hold ears, scream, cry, etc.)
-Bad with sports, eye coordination, verbal direction (multiple conversations cause an overload)
-If I try to change his "routine" at home, he will get angry and physical
-Feels guily after anger fit, then gets calm, monotone voice again

I can tell you that I have Asperger's and the description of your son looks like a description of me at that age (except for the anger fits).

Even if it isn't Asperger's, it would probably be helpful to minimize sensory inputs and keep a routine. I personally still use a white noise machine to block sounds and black-out curtains to reduce light. Another simple thing I find helpful when going to someplace new is to get there really early, before anyone else, and let the crowd come in gradually around me (easing myself in to a new place).

I have Asperger's

My mom is an assistant in an autistic class. All of the students in the class have different forms of autism. And your description fits the profile. They don't like to get away from their routine, the can't carry on a conversation, and sounds bother them. Those ar the most common. And being unusually smart would mean he has Aspergers.

its a hard thing to get a diagnosis for. I'm 28, show many of the symptoms of your son and have just recently been told that I may have it.
