I am 13 years old and i think I'm depressed?!

Question: I am 13 years old and i think I'm depressed?
I think I'm depressed, but I'm not sure because I don't think you can get depressed without having a reason? Basically I'm always upset and after school I always cry? There is no reason for me to be upset because i have a boyfriend and a great life at the moment and I wouldn't change anything, apart from the unreasonable crying, obviously. Its just really annoying, I don't want to see anyone who I know about it either unless its really necessary.. Around may last year I got upset and I self harmed and I'm scared if I get too upset I'll self harm again and then it will get around school and people with think I'm a freak! What is wrong with me?

Answers:

I'm your age, and severly depressed sometimes. We should talk. It always helps to talk to someone who can't interfere much with your social life.

Depression doesn't always need a reason. Depression is a serious mental condition involving your brain. It can get better and, when treated properly, can go away.

Please don't hurt yourself. It's a sick disgusting habit that will consume you eventually. Please never do. Find a solution, like holding icecubes in your hand or drawing where you usually would cut. I don't recommend flicking bracelets, but whatever helps you not scar yourself.

Self harming and depression calls for therapy needs.

Please hang in there.
