Is agoraphobia considered a disability?!

Question: Is agoraphobia considered a disability?
When a person has agoraphobia, anxieties, and depression so bad that they cant leave the house with out having panic attacks, is that considered a disability? In this case the agoraphobia has manifested itself physically and the physical, and mental deterioration of the individual is beyond belief. Does anyone know of anyone who has this chronic type of depression/agoraphobia? If so were they able to claim disability for their illness?

Answers:

Hi Jim. I'm in that exact situation right now. Depressed, anxiety, health issues, agoraphobic. I was denied disability because all of these conditions are deemed "treatable". If you have a medical issue, and they feel you can get better by taking medication, they will usually deny you disability. They never take into consideration that sometimes the medications do not work for everybody.

Yes its a mental disability but it really depends on how it affects your life. Can the person not get out at all can they work from home?
Can they other wise have a fairly normal life. Are they taking the proper meds to help or refusing help? In extreme cases yes you can claim disability for this kind of illness.
They would have to fill out many questionnaire and get their doctor to explain the illness to the claims department then be assessed by an independent doctor.

Yes it is, and yes they can - but it will be considered on individual merit.
