Question: What is wrong with someone who reacts like this?

Ok, basically ever since I was very little my mom would cut my hair very short, like boy short. She also kind of encourages that I wear sporty/boy clothing, even though I don't listen to that and dress how I want. However recently I went to the hairdressers, and even though I'm in my 20's, my mom told me how I should get my haircut very very short. When I came back, and still had length to my hair, she freaked out. Ever since then, she's been treating me horribly, calling me names, constantly criticizing me, this that. Also whenever I buy something that's kind of girly, she'll pout, be crabby, look unhappy, and be downright angry for a long time. So what is wrong with her? Why does she react this way, and is this normal?

I am certain that is not a normal way to react! Since she has been trying to control your hair do for years now, maybe your "rebellion" has made her realize that she can't make do what she wants you to because you will not tolerate it anymore. And not getting her way of course makes her upset.
What I don't get is why she is trying to make you into "tomboy"...

maybe your long hair makes you look like someone from her past or she wants a boy so badly she's taking out on you who knows

Tell your mom your a grown adult and even though her opinion matters to you, you personally like long hair. She shouldn't act so childish...
