Is this a good reason for wanting to wean off of Lamictal?!

Question: Is this a good reason for wanting to wean off of Lamictal?
I take the generic version of Lamictal which is Lamotrigine, 200mg for bipolar. I will talk to my doctor about coming off of it, because I don't trust the prescription program that I get the medication through (I have no insurance) It's the RX outreach program where get a prescription order every 90 days--a 90 day supply is only $40. However, they seem to stall and take forever on my order. I send in my check at least 20 days before i run out of pills. I sent out my payment last Friday on 3/18/11 and today they still didn't get my order. I am really worried that my check got lost in the mail. I always end up having to go to the pharmacy for extra pills until my order finally arrives.
Because I am so tired of worrying about this every three months and losing sleep over this cause im anxious it will never arrive in the mail, I want to stop taking the medication--I worry about the mail a lot, so do i have a good reason for wanting to come off the Lamotrigine??

Answers:

It's not really a good idea to come off the Lamictal if you have bipolar. All your original symptoms will come back. Talk to your doctor and see if there is an alternative program available. You might be able to get free samples from your doctor. It's not the Lamictal's fault, and it's probably not the postal service's fault either. It sounds more like the prescription program is very slow to do anything. I'd be more worried about them sitting on their butt's than the mail, and I'd be calling and giving them hell. If you're really worried about the mail you can send your payment registered mail. They will have to sign for the letter, and a receipt will be returned to you by the post office. It will show who signed for it, and when. It's not that expensive to do. Maybe about a dollar, and it will give you peace of mind knowing your check made it and didn't get lost in the mail.

Go get samples from your doctor, I just got 5 weeks worth and it didn't cost me a dime, in fact, my psychiatrist told me to come back when I ran out and he'd give me more. Drug manufacturers give out lots of samples to doctors for advertisement purposes so it's free.
