Is anerexioua a mental disorder?!

Question: Is anerexioua a mental disorder?
I was wondering if it effects them mentally also, making it so they can't stop not eating. I know it effects them mentally so they think their fat when there not, but does it mentally make them incapable of eating a regular diet. I hope my question makes sense.

Answers:

Yes it does. It can cause them to just straight not want to eat, eventually the feeling of hunger goes away and they constantly feel like they are full. Like Bulimia for example, if a bulimic TRIED to eat a regular diet they would automatically throw up because their body can't handle it. It's just not used to it. That's a main reason why eating disorders are sooo dangerous is because they are sooo hard to get over.

Of course they will be able to reach a manageable diet in time. It would be like weening though lol.

Anorexia Nervosa is categorized as a mental illness. In fact, it is the leading cause of death of any mental illness. Is is very much a psychological illness. People think it's about losing weight and looking a certain way, that constitutes a tiny portion of the illness and in some people has nothing to do with that. There are 3 components (I've read): physiological, brain chemistry, and external influences.

Yes it can make some people think they're fat but again, in a lot of cases it has absolutely nothing to do with "being fat". In almost all cases it has to do with control, sometimes it results from abuse, there are many reasons why one can develop this disorder.

I'm not entirely sure why I suffered from anorexia, I've never really gotten to the root of it, I have not found a good therapist. I am recovered but still struggle with thoughts daily. I also have compulsions. A lot of people with eating disorders have co-existing mental and physical disorders. I also have severe depression and anxiety. This is common.

No it is not a mental illness or disorder. Anorexia is an eating disorder that causes women (and some men) to starve themselves due to their personal struggles with self acceptance and body image issues. It doesn't physically make them incapable or unable to eat via a mental disorder. It's all in their head yes, but it's psychological in the sense they look in the mirror and they're never thin enough.

It's both mental and physical. It's a horrible thing to have happen to you, sometimes it starts out as an innocent diet and then it spirals out of control, it's very similar to a drug addiction because when you try to stop you can't unless you get professional help.

Personal experience.

I wouldn't say it makes them incapable, it's an addiction like smoking its not that it makes them incapable to stop but its very hard
